Deal With The Devil/Peddler

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

If you could only eat one item for the rest of your life, what would it be?

You can either choose the Buffalo Chicken Wrap from Pizza Peddler

OR
You can have the Buffalo Chicken Calzone From Georges.

Yes Please

Now, some things to consider.
For a quick lunch meal, the Buff Wrap is optimal but when you are starving and really jonesin for some true buffalo flavor, a calzone is the only thing that will do.

The Wrap isn’t a true buffalo flavor and you would start to skew your taste and remembrance of buffalo.
The Chicken Filet they give you in the wrap is better but doesnt really lend itself well to Buffalo as they just drizzle the sauce on rather than shake the living shit out of it. (you should see the forearms)

So, just like the guy in the Miller Lite Commercial, if you could only have one for the rest of your life, what would it be? The zone or the wrap.

Im going zone BECAUSE it costs less, fills you up, cures hangovers and comes with blue cheese that you can dunk it till your hearts content (or failure). The lack of true buffalo flavor and self medication is a dealbreaker.

Leave a comment and let me know your choice.

Here is a picture of Buffs Pub Wings in Newton, I will review them later but they just may be the best wings around!

Boloco : Buffalo Chicken Burrito

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

First things first, they refer to this item as a wrap on the menu.  I must classify it as a burrito because it has rice in it. Not to mention every other item they sell is a burrito.

What could be in this beatiful gift from the gods?

Anna’s Tacqueria makes the most outstanding burrito’s in the entire Boston area, however the drive takes about 40 minutes. When Boloco was put in town everyone thought, Sweet! Now I have a place to get my fix without the drive.

Quickly people realized that while Boloco would suffice it was nothing out of this world. We were expecting it to compete with the cities best burrito producer and naturally the expectations were too great. Boloco instead offers delicious wraps if you know what to look for and skip the traditional mexican style burrito.

How does this all relate to buffalo chicken?

The item that wasn’t overhyped turned out to be the best of them all. The buffalo chicken wrap at boloco infuses a very good buffalo flavor with delicious blue cheese, celery, rice and chicken. You can also get this item with steak but this website isn’t called buffalo steak calzone.com now is it? jk, I will often get steak every 3rd burrito.

burritoclose

For a “health hack” I often get the wheat tortilla and brown rice to go along with it. I immediatly cancel it out by asking for extra chicken and having three ladel scoops of buffalo sauce on it. They always look at me like are you sure you really want 3 scoops and I give them the nod and say do it, do it!

Overall, Boloco offers a variety of flavors which can deliver. While the traditional burrito is delicious for people who have never left the town, the world offers more. (Its like me saying anna’s is the best when I haven’t been to texas or LA to SD area in california.)

However, I feel the buffalo chicken burrito when made with love, care and adult supervision truly delivers one of the most unique buffalo chicken experiences out there!

Where ZFarls "Does Work"

Where ZFarls "Does Work"

I used to always order 2 but now I just get one large with extra meat. Paying for your own health insurance will do that to a man.

Boloco is also one of those new and hip companies where you can order online and track calories which is nice. I will pick up these bad boys for the office lunches and the menu is vast enough to please nearly everyone. They have good chips and salsa/guac if your into that as well. They will also do free promotions and I have even adopted aborted burrito orders a few times. They are friendly and do things right and business is like tennis, those who serve well win. I look to keep boloco as part of my diet in the future!

This was a free one and not "on steroids" as I usually order them. Still delicious!

Pizza Peddler : Buffalo Chicken Wrap

Restaurant Review

Buffalo Chicken Wrap
from Pizza Peddler (Natick, MA)

I will add a picture the next time I eat this delicious wrap, this site is turining into a good excuse for me to devour buffalo products!

The Buffalo Chicken Wrap is a fine item and ranks quite highly when done properly. Often times though, places sell wraps that are an absolute abomination to the buffalo chicken market. Girls will order them and say mmm its soo good but really its garbage. Fortunately, Pizza Peddler doesn’t serve one of these.

Pro’s:
Lets start off with the chicken in their wrap. Often I am afraid that ordering a wrap will not fill me up and I will sit and wonder what could have been. Peddler loads up there wrap with 3 full fillets of chicken parm style breast that is fried. Now one thing I like about this is when you order the wrap, you see them grab the pieces of uncooked breast from its holding cell and place it in the frying apperatus. You often burn your mouth from the heat of the food that was cooked live in front of you. There is no bullshit steamed rubber breast from subway with red sauce doused on it. This chicken is the real deal and is ALWAYS consistent.

Next strong suit for Peddler is the blue cheese in the wrap. It combines with the buffalo and is just chunky enough for the perfect consistency. Often it makes a sweet pool in the “nub” of the wrap and delivers a creamy explosion on the last bite. Delicious.

The wrap is a pro in the sense that it takes nothing away from this sandwich and is always soft enough to be considered fresh.

*A little user hack I throw in on my wrap is to get the diced pickles added to it. I like the twang and contrast and the diced is better than round pickles on this item.

Con’s-

It may not be your father’s buffalo sauce but once you understand and appreciate it for what it is, this flavor will grow on you. Its more of a sweeter sublte flavor than the all out delicious heat that I am used to.
Pizza Peddler can tend to be on the pricier side of the specturm. I am okay with this however.

Overall- If I have said this once, then I have said it 1,000 times. It is one of my most passionate stances of anything that exists on this earth.
I would rather pay 8.50 for a delicious wrap where I know that quality is going to be consistently delivered than 5 dollars for some bullshit attempt at a sub just because it is only 4-6 dollars. (im not singling out subway.)
When you find an item like this, you save it for special occasions where a normal lunch will just not satisfy you.

8.5/10

Buffalo Product Power Rankings

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

After eating nearly every type of buffalo chicken product that I could get my mouth on for the last 10 years, I have decided to rank the ways to eat Buffalo Chicken Products. Below are the power rankings for all the buffalo products that I have encountered on my journey thus far, enjoy.

1. The Calzone

It was a monster

It was a monster

When done well, this item allows for maximum flavor and welcomes at least two types of cheese. The fill you receive from the deliciously toasted crust enables it to fill you up and is a great value. Despite the debate over styles and recipes, I think we can all agree Buffalo Calzones are the best buffalo variation ever.

2. Wings- The food that started my addiction to hot sauce remains dear to my heart. I feel that wings deliver the best true flavor although they don’t always fill me up. One area that I enjoy is being able to self medicate with blue cheese. This allows you to control the heat of the wings in question. So many flavors and spices but buffalo is the best of all.

3. Wrap- This item is responsible for allowing beginners into the field, however they can often be the most mediocre product and made by unqualified folk. Girls often enjoy these and I am all for them having buffalo, but if its not fresh and delicious than that is bull. Everyone is trying to capitalize on the market but not everyone has figured out the deliciousness yet.

4. Pizza- There is no universal recipe for this item yet, while most restaurants consider it gourmet, I hardly do. Where it doesn’t score points is in bringing true buffalo flavor out. It has solid chicken usually and allows for plenty of cheese which is where it gets its rank.

5. Tenders- More of a beginner item than the wing, tenders also suffer from many sucky incarnations. I admit that I enjoy the hell out of good tenders, but people try and pretend that the frozen ones don’t suck and that does a diservice to buffalo products everywhere.

6. Sub- When used with tender, this sub can deliver dynamic flavor and heat. Slather it up with enough blue cheese and this baby always seems to deliver. I fear mediocre variations, but my go to places always know how to serve it up just right. (Georges pizza, Natick and Linden store on fridays.)

7. Burrito-

While similar to a wrap, this white meat chicken item can deliver juicy flavoring and the fill that a wrap can’t. The rice is a make or break feature, but I feel that once you know what to expect than you can really start to enjoy a well made burrito.

8. Dip- This also has many variations which we will explore in future posts, It is a strong item and should always be present if men are sitting around drinking and speaking of heroic deeds.

9.Salad- I always order because I am in the mood for tenders, yeah it comes with some lettuce but I feel the layer of blue cheese does enough to cancel out the potential health benefits.

10. Cake? Would I? YUP

If there is something I missed or haven’t discovered yet or if you have a recommendation, let me know here. Thanks

*Also, I hope to cover all these items individually because I eat them in my rotation of foods. I need to take photos of them before I devour them.
